I currently use On-Screen Takeoff and Quick Bid for my takeoff and estimating, Bluebeam Revu eXtreme for my PDF editor and a myriad of other things, and am looking into moving forward with either eSub or Procore. Over the last decade that I have been estimating and project managing, I have kept up with the technology advancements within the industry to the best of my ability and still do. All-in-all, there are many factors involved with this decision such as your industry / trade, the average total annual revenue your firm does, the performance specs of your current workstations, etc.
I personally recommend the snipping tool approach as you may need to see the actual takeoff later on down the road and not just your quantities.
